Merry | *low waste* christmas

Haven’t quite decorated the tree or wrapped those gifts yet?

*These are a few of my favorite things* towards creating a low waste holiday

  • TREE: Choose a real tree (because it can be composted) or reuse an artificial tree from years past. (*Fun Find: London has a tree rental initiative! It allows you to rent a tree in a pot and you return it in January. Once the tree reaches 7 ft. tall, it “retires” by being planted in a forest to live out the rest of it’s days. How cool is that!)

  • TREE SKIRT: Use a blanket or bed sheet around the base of the tree, or alternatively, a basket from another room of the house. It’s chic and serves a dual purpose.

  • DECORATIONS: Go for natural decor! Real garland, flowers (poinsettias are in!), pine cones, cranberries, and more can set the tone for the holidays. Dried fruits such as citrus or salt dough cookies make great ornaments — all biodegradable!

  • WRAPPING PAPER: Repurpose paper bags, newspapers, or the protective paper used for wrapping glass items at stores. You can also try fabric wrapping like old linens. PS. most wrapping paper can’t be recycled due to their metallic coloring/elements, which is a lot of waste for one holiday (yikes!).

  • GIFTS: Rather than material items, gift a loved one with an experience (a massage, pottery class, etc.) or send an electronic gift card from a small business; during these trying times, it’s a double win! As a gentle reminder, the greatest gift of all is one filled with love and generosity x

Happy Holidays! x
